Sixteen years ago the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, leaving them without magic or a monarch. Now, the Winterians’ only hope for freedom is the eight survivors who managed to escape, and who have been waiting for the opportunity to steal back Winter’s magic and rebuild the kingdom ever since.
Orphaned as an infant during Winter’s defeat, Meira has lived her whole life as a refugee, raised by the Winterians’ general, Sir. Training to be a warrior—and desperately in love with her best friend, and future king, Mather — she would do anything to help her kingdom rise to power again.
So when scouts discover the location of the ancient locket that can restore Winter’s magic, Meira decides to go after it herself. Finally, she’s scaling towers, fighting enemy soldiers, and serving her kingdom just as she’s always dreamed she would. But the mission doesn’t go as planned, and Meira soon finds herself thrust into a world of evil magic and dangerous politics – and ultimately comes to realize that her destiny is not, never has been, her own.

100 points for covergasm.
Can anyone please suggest me a YA fantasy book with a female protagonist and not a love triangle?
Exactly. There are none.
Or at least not in the recent releases.
I tired and tired to love this book. But after Ember in the ashes, Red Queen and A Court of Thorn and Roses and to some extend Cinder ( and if you’ve read both you’ll know why) I could guess everything from
a mile. A planet.
It hurts when books and heroines have so much potential and they just loose it.
Meira is one of the most badass, strong willed YAF character ever.
” Even the strongest blizzard stars with a single snowflake.”
I didn’t like this book. There were time when I just wanted this to end and that has nothing to do with the author and more to do with the same drag storyline.
Two divides, fighting, one girl(mostly), a love interest later another love interest, some random fighting scenes, girl gets some action, fighting again , villain is almost dying but escapes and this leads to..
Wait for it..
The next two books : Trying to find the Villan and beating around the bush.
I am soooo done with these books. Soooo done.
I can’t express how much I am done.
